Henry married Marguerite June Skelly on 23 Sep 1949. Marguerite (daughter of James Thomas Skelly and Ella Graham Gilbert) was born on 30 Jun 1925; died on 1 Dec 2007 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Resthaven Cemetary, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

From Judy Heddle on 1 Dec 2007:
Aunt June died quite peacefully in her sleep last night, in her own bed at home. Over the last few months, she had developed dementia, and unfortunately she experienced a lot of anxiety in these last few months. I knew this was true because of my own conversations with her. It is rare, but they never discovered the primary source of the cancer. Her care was managed by a palliative care team from Mt Sinai.

"Pops" McArthur was a died-in-the-wool alcoholic, waking up each morning to a glass of whiskey placed there by his daughter Eleanor. He was a well-known feature of The Beaches area in Toronto where he lived. He used to sit on his front porch in the morning, sipping his whiskey. People would walk by and say "See ya later, Pops" and he would reply "Sure, at Sharon's" which was the local funeral parlor.

This was no doubt the reason why his wife Nellie picked up and left. She didn't take the kids, she left on her own, leaving the kids to fend for themselves. Pops couldn't do much to provide, so as the eldest son it fell to Jack and he was working at a very early age. He took on this responsibility so his sister Eleanor could continue school.
