- John was the final Heddle to be Laird of Melsetter; he sold the estate to Thomas Middlemore of Hawkesley and retired to his estate at Cletts, South Ronaldsay (I'm guessing that this is the same estate that his great grandfather John Heddle originally owned, but i can't be sure).
He was Justice of the Peace for the County of Orkney.
