John Taylor (bishop of Sodor and Man)
John Ralph Strickland Taylor[1] was Bishop of Sodor and Man[2] from 1942 to 1954.[3] He was born into an ecclesiastical family[4] on 13 December 1883 and educated at Marlborough and Pembroke College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1910 after a period of study at Ridley Hall, Cambridge he was then Chaplain, Tutor and Vice Principal there until he became Chaplain of the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich.[5] From 1818 until 1928 he was Headmaster of St Lawrence College, Ramsgate. Later he was Rector of Hodnet[6] then Principal of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford [7]- a post he held until his elevation to the Episcopate.[8] He died on 13 December 1961.[9]
