Heddle, Flora McLaren (nee McLaren)
Formerly of Oakville, Dundas and Campbellville, Flora died peacefully, on February 6, 1993, in Hamilton, where she was born in 1909. She was the loving and beloved wife of Dunbar Moodie Heddle and had a very close relationship with all of her family, in particular her brother Dick and his wife Dottie of Hamilton, her sister Mar and her husband Mel Jennings of Bronxville (New York), her sister-in-law Mimi and her husband Eric Duke Scott of King City, and her sister-in-law Shelagh and her husband Tommy Stott of Victoria. Her children, John and Judy Heddle of Kleinburg, Frances and Rien Van Mil of Selkirk, and Margaret and Phil Dales of Hamilton will miss her love, charm, grace and vivacity, as will her grandchildren, Bob Heddle (Tokyo), Catharine Heddle (Toronto), Stephen Van Mil (Selkirk), and Grace Van Mil (Selkirk). A 1929 graduate of the University of Toronto, she was a member of the first class in Physical and Occupational Therapy, which profession she practised until her marriage. Many organizations became the focus of her efforts at different times of her life, including the Girl Guides of Canada, the I.O.D.E, and the Ontario Branch of the Herb Society of America. At various times she was the president of the Dundas Garden Club, The Ontario Garden Club, and the Mountsberg Women's Institute. She was also active in the Shade Tree Council. All who knew Flora recognized her special warmth. The funeral will be in the Chapel at the Church of the Ascension, 64 Forest Avenue (at John Street South), Hamilton, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10. Cremation to follow. The family will welcome friends at the Swackhamer and Hilts - Blachford and Wray Funeral Home, 1341 Main Street West (opposite McMaster), Hamilton from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. |
